In the video he explores Beckett’s notion of dreamlike states and questioning of reality, also using megaliths and monoliths as inspiration: these mysterious stone installations are the bridge into different realities. This results in a live repertoire that changes organically with each performance. In Guarda-Rios, the singers explore the dualities between rural and urban; the acquired and the uncertain; the structure of the song and the chance of improvisation; the stability of what they inherit from the past and the mutability of the present. With new arrangements written in 2020, the music was conducted by the prestigious percussionist and conductor Pedro Carneiro and played by some of the leading national figures of contemporary, improvised and experimental music.&nbsp; &nbsp; The performance on the 22nd of November 2020 was the première of this ambitious musical project which later in 2021 was released in album by the label Clean Feed, as Lumina and got nominated for Best Jazz Album at Play 2022.&nbsp; &nbsp; It’s the main creative exploration space of Pedro Melo Alves as a composer, where his visions of evasion and transcendence – echoes of a tempting impossibility – are put on paper to challenge.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; You hear intricate landscapes, with the extended sounds of contemporary music blended with the flow of improvised music and the disruption of electronic experimental music. Lázaro, Lisbon, 2022 Sismógrafo, Oporto, 2022 The Weather Orchestra is an ode to the elements, expressing both our deep relationship and entanglement with the weather and celebrating our connection to the atmosphere and the earth. This 4-channel video installation with surround sound simulates an indoor 'weather system' through sound vibration and singing. Three projections feature musicians performing on instruments and analogue noise machines designed to imitate the sounds of natural phenomena. From a Baroque wind machine to a Latin American ceremonial rain stick, ocean drums, aqua-phones and thunder sheets fill the exhibition space with sound and allude to the forces and magnificence of nature. Like some images, that acquire value and meaningfulness when they travel through screens, conversations, so does the speech when the body moves. In collaboration with professional musicians and non-professional singers, a singing score was created through images and notes that were taken during the rehearsals, over a period of three months.
